Picture of a sand sculpture made at Rio

Picture of a sand sculpture made at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach on April 9, 2010. The unusual roughness seen these days in Rio’s Guanabara Bay and the high level of the water, is, according to experts, caused by the same climate phenomenon that originated the heaviest rains in half a century that since Monday unleashed the floods and mudslides which killed an estimate of 380 people in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Rescuers resumed on Friday a grim search through a wall of mud with hopes fading of finding survivors as more than 380 people are now feared to have died in Brazil’s worst rains in decades.
