Orfani

BAGHDAD, IRAQ – JULY 25: Boys at the Al-Baraum orphanage eat lunch on July 25, 2011 in Baghdad, Iraq. The state owned orphanage has about 50 children currently with the number increasing. Iraq, a country struggling to get over its violent and impoverished past, currently has an estimated 4.5 million orphans with 500,000 living in streets according to a 2008 report. Many children have lost parents after the 2003 American led invasion which resulted in years of ethnic and sectarian violence. As the deadline for the departure of the remaining American forces in Iraq approaches, Iraqi politicians have been increasingly pressured to give a final decision about extending the mandate for a small U.S. military presence beyond the end of the 2011 deadline.
