A general view shows the courtroom in Perugia on September 6, 2011 before the resumption of the appeal trial of Italian defendant Raffaele Sollecito and his former girlfriend, US defendant Amanda Knox, who were respectively sentenced in December 2009 to 25 and 26 years in prison for the murder of Meredith Kercher, the British roommate of Knox, in Perugia, in what prosecutors said was a drug-fuelled sex game that turned violent. Both are now appealing their convictions. Commissioned by the court, the independent experts have cast serious doubts on the original DNA analysis on a bra clasp and a kitchen knife that helped convict Knox and Sollecito.
